Our day with Dr. Senf begins in the Discovering Ansel Adams exhibition gallery with a private hour of guided, close looking. Learn what distinguishes Adams’s evolving approach to crafting photographic prints over his career—and how to spot and recognize these features. As a special bonus, Adams photographs from the Cincinnati Art Museum permanent collection will be temporarily positioned in the gallery, enabling us to observe key differences between prints of a given image.
After a brief break, we convene in the museum’s new Carl M. Jacobs Study Center to learn about your Ansel Adams photographs—along with additional works from the museum’s collection—with Senf’s expert guidance. We will train our eyes as a group as we examine photographs without glazing, lift mats, and turn artworks over to learn about all the details an expert sees: paper types, signatures, inscriptions, back marks, presentation styles, and more. Experience for yourself the new encounters with art that are enabled by the Study Center!
If you don’t have an Adams print in your collection, don’t fret. This workshop will help you better understand markers of quality in all photographic prints.
Our day concludes with an intimate reception in the newly opened Marek-Weaver Family Commons. Ask all your lingering questions while we enjoy champagne, wine, non-alcoholic refreshments, and lunch by the bite with Dr. Senf.
**For those electing to bring artwork, please be aware that neither Senf nor Cincinnati Art Museum staff can provide valuation or formal appraisal.**
